Bo Hmu Aung

His political activities started when he
joined Dobama Asiayone (We Burmans Association) in
1930 and Thirty Comrades in 1941. These organisations were created to gain
independence from Britain. General Aung San is top national leader of Burma.
U Aung Zan Wai, U Pe Khin, U Tin Tut, Bo Hmu
Aung, Sir Maung Gyi, Bo Khin Maung Galay ,Dr. Sein Mya Maung, Myoma U Than Kywe
were most important negotiators and leaders of the historical Panglong Conference negotiated with Burma
national top leader General Aung San and other top leaders in 1947. All these
leaders decided to join together to form the Union of Burma. Union day
celebration is one of the greatest in the history of Burma.

He was detained and put under house arrest many times after the military coup in 1962. Released in 1967, he joined U Nu's insurgent PDP in Thailand, but returned to Rangoon after the 1980 amnesty.
After the 8888 Uprising
he formed, with U Nu, the League for Democracy and Peace
and signed several public appeals urging the ruling junta to negotiate with the National League for Democracy after its
win in the 1990 parliamentary elections.
